So I looked at a lot of recipes and came up with a hybrid of all the things that I thought sounded good.
4 medium sized onions sliced thinly
2 cans beef consomme
2 cans beef broth (14 oz cans)
1 packet of Liptons french onion soup mix
1 teaspoon of dried thyme
1 can of Guinness
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
Put all of these ingredients in a crock pot on high and come back in 6 hours to the best smelling house ever!
1 - loaf of crusty french bread cut in pieces about 1 inch think a
Shredded Gruyere (it’s pricey…but so worth it)
I cut the slices of bread and left them out for the day to get a little dried out. When I was ready to serve, I turned on my broiler and set two pieces ont he top and completely covered with shredded cheese. i allowed the top to get all bubbly and crunchy before I took it out and served.
